A little About Us
The history of Moonkitten Cattery goes back to my own childhood. My love of cats first developed at the age of 12. I was fascinated by a cat breeds poster at the vet office and I begged my mum for a Burmese cat. Unfortunately she was a dog person, having been president of the Kennel Club in Malaysia. She she said no, no and no again. However being the ultra-persistent child I was, I begged her for so long and so relentlessly that she eventually caved in. I got my my first ever cat, a lovely brown Burmese named Kimba.
We were hooked. My mom soon started breeding Burmese cats and I grew up in a house full of kittens. It was glorious, and probably the best part of my childhood.
Fast forward a few decades. Mum and I are telling my eight year old daughter funny kitten tales from when was a little girl: One fell in the toilet. One litter was born in my bed while I was asleep. Another kitten somehow got stuck under the shower pan (we have no idea how she got there) and we had to remove the entire shower to get her out. So many great memories. My daughter is immediately found on the internet searching for cats and decides she HAS to have a Ragdoll cat. Life came full circle, (she apparently inherited her persistence from me). We started researching Ragdolls.
Eventually we found a gorgeous Mink Seal girl called Diamond, and Moonkitten Cattery was born. She became our first Queen and most of our current queens are Diamond’s daughters, she is the super momma and has passed this trait on.
We are based in gorgeous Ojai, Southern California. It’s a really beautiful town-a great day out when choosing, visiting or picking up your kitten. There are great restaurants, activities for the kids and some amazing hikes to do before visiting us to pick up your new baby. Some people even incorporate an adoption into a weekend away.
We live on a little mini ranch and you are welcome to bring kids, family and friends to come visit with us. It’s super fun for the littles, they can come pet our pot bellied pigs, goats and chickens. If you are really lucky we might even have some baby chickens for the kids to hold!

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of litter do you use?
Ragdoll kittens can use regular cat litter. However, some owners prefer to use clumping or non-clumping clay-based litters, while others opt for natural and biodegradable alternatives like pine or wheat-based litters. It's essential to keep their litter box clean and regularly scoop out waste to maintain their hygiene. Ragdolls are very clean and tend to be picky about their toilets. Some even use a separate littlerbox to pee and poop.
How long until we take them home after we make the deposit?
The time between making a deposit and taking your Ragdoll kitten home can vary depending on the breeder's policies and the kitten's age. Typically, kittens can be ready to leave their mother and go to their new homes around 12 to 16 weeks of age. Be sure to discuss this timeline with the breeder. At Moonkitten we tend to only allow kittens to leave under 12 weeks of age if they are leaving as a pair or other special circumstances.
Are they hypoallergenic?
Ragdolls are not considered hypoallergenic, as they do produce allergenic proteins found in their saliva, urine, and skin oils. People with cat allergies may still react to Ragdolls, but individual reactions can vary.
Are they good with other animals?
Ragdoll cats are known for their gentle and sociable nature, and they generally get along well with other animals, including other cats and dogs. All of our kittens have been exposed to and are comfortable with dogs. Proper introductions and socialization are essential to ensure a smooth transition when introducing them to new pets.
Do they like to cuddle?
Ragdolls are often referred to as "puppy-like" cats because they tend to enjoy human companionship and cuddling. They are known for their affectionate and docile nature, and many Ragdolls love being held and cuddled.
Should we feed them wet food?
Ragdoll kittens and cats can thrive on a balanced diet of high-quality commercial cat food. You can choose between dry kibble and wet canned food, or a combination of both. Some owners prefer wet food for its moisture content, which can help maintain their hydration. Be sure to consult with your veterinarian for specific dietary recommendations based on your cat's age and health.
